A man died Sunday evening when the bicycle he was riding along Eisenhower Parkway just west of the Macon Mall was struck by a small SUV, Bibb County officials said.

The victim, Alexis M. Davison, 49, was said to have been riding west toward oncoming traffic on the four-lane highway’s eastbound side when he was hit by a Lexus RX driven by a Macon woman.

Coroner Leon Jones, who happened to be just walking out of a nearby restaurant shortly before 7:30 p.m., said he heard a “thud” and then “I heard screaming,” possibly from a witness to the crash.

“Then I called it in,” Jones said, explaining that he promptly alerted fire-rescue and ambulance officials.

The incident happened between Log Cabin Drive and Bloomfield Road.

Davison was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Further details were not immediately available Monday.

Davison’s family lived a couple of miles south of where he was hit.
