If you’re already thinking ahead about cleaning up after your Christmas festivities, Macon is offering a unique way to dispose of your Christmas tree.

The city will host its annual “Bring One for the Chipper” event Jan. 7 for citizens to dispose of Christmas trees, the city announced in a press release. The chipper will be at Luther Williams Field downtown from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful will also give away free seed packets at the event. Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful recycles donated trees into mulch and fish habitats. Trees must be free of decorations and unbound.

If you need to throw away your tree but can’t make the event in January, the city’s trash partner Ryland Environment will pick them up. The trees can only be picked up as bulk waste, not yard waste, so make sure to check the schedule to see what days your tree is eligible to be taken. It depends on where you live.

Warner Robins often hosts a similar event featuring recycling and free seeds, but a date hasn’t been announced yet.

The city also said their offices will be closed multiple days during the holiday season. Offices will be closed Friday and Monday for Christmas, as well as Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 for New Year’s Day.
