Macon man, 78, found dead in house fire on Zebulon Road in northern Bibb County

A man was found dead Thursday evening, the apparent victim of a house fire on Zebulon Road in northern Bibb County.

The man who died was identified as 78-year-old Raphael Francis Baird, coroner’s officials said.

The fire happened in the 5200 block of Zebulon, about three-quarters of a mile west of Forsyth Road at the northeastern edge of the Carlyle Place property.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that firefighters answered a call of “heavy smoke” in the area at about 5:30 p.m. and arrived to find the house in flames.
