Macon named one of the best places to visit in 2023. See why.
Cherry Blossom trees, Ocmulgee Mounds and the Otis Redding Museum.
These are things that make Macon special.
These sites are also what make Macon one of the best places to visit in 2023, according to Frommer’s travel guide.
Macon will celebrate its bicentennial next year and the city has no shortage of rich history.
Frommer’s travel guide wasted no time in naming the Ocmulgee Mounds as one of the must-see attractions in Macon.
“Ocmulgee Mounds, a collection of ancient earthworks, sits on land that was inhabited by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for millennia. The site could soon be designated Georgia’s first national park,” wrote Zac Thompson.
The music of Macon was another hot topic in the travel guide, as well as Macon’s nightlife and increasing popularity in the film industry.
“Keep an eye out for movie stars around town — Macon’s picturesque streets and Georgia’s thriving film industry make this a popular backdrop for on-location shoots,” said Thompson.
If you are traveling to Macon, there are plenty of historic places to stay, such as the 1842 Inn, the Burke Mansion or Hotel Forty Five.
So, what other places made the list?
Frommer’s “Best Places to Go to in 2023,” also included Tokyo, San Sebastián and Bilbao, Spain, Athens and Western Australia.
