A woman died in a fire early Tuesday morning on Ell Street in west Macon, officials said.

The house was at 867 Ell Street, just north of I-75 and two blocks east of Eisenhower Parkway. The call for the fire went out at 4 a.m., according to Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

Firefighters found a woman in the house after it burned. She was dead at about 5 a.m., Miley said.

Officials are not releasing the woman’s identity until her next of kin have been notified.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, according to Miley. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department is investigating the blaze.

The house is completely burned, though it is still standing. Debris from the fire is strewn across the lawn, but no nearby houses were impacted by the burn.
