Summer can be hard for parents. If you’re already struggling to find fun things to do with the kids, you aren’t alone.

But fear not. June’s First Friday brings live music, crafts and games for the entire family.

In partnering with the Boys and Girls of Central Georgia, Library Without Walls (WOW), and the 567 Center for Renewal, NewTown Macon will host its First Friday of the month celebration and this Friday’s theme is about the kids.

The Family Fun Zone will be at the Third Street park median between Cherry Street and Poplar Street from 5:30 — 7:30 p.m. and will include live music by Green Grass Green, a clay sculpture activity, lawn games and Library Without Walls (WOW).

“Through the Macon Action Plan, the community cited the need and desire for more family-friendly activities in our urban core,” said Emily Hopkins, director of place at NewTown Macon. “We established the Family Fun Zone to welcome and encourage families to visit downtown Macon and experience it from a kid-friendly lens.”

The Family Fun Zone will also host a giant, inflatable duck named Earnie.

Yes, you read that right. A giant, inflatable duck.

Earnie is the mascot for the upcoming Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race on June 11 hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia. Kids will be able to join Earnie and take photos with him; small rubber duckies will also be given out to children.

“First Friday is a time that celebrates the way downtown Macon is for everybody,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia’s vice president of mission advancement, Rachelle Mosely. “NewTown Macon hosts activities that are family-friendly and appeal to everyone. Their initiatives are an important piece in cultivating a community that is inclusive and creates a safe space for all Macon residents to have fun. We are happy to be included in this First Friday’s activities and hope to see some new faces at the Family Fun Zone and at our upcoming Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race!”

Be sure to snap your selfie with Earnie and enjoy music, games and family fun this Friday.
