Man killed in apparent forklift accident at Tractor Supply Company warehouse in Macon

A 55-year-old man was killed Thursday in an apparent forklift accident involving a gun safe at a south Macon warehouse, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Jones said the incident happened at about 9:30 a.m. at the Tractor Supply Company distribution center, which sits just west of Interstate 75 between Hartley Bridge and Sardis Church roads.

The man who died was later identified by the coroner as David Butler of Macon.

In a statement emailed to the Telegraph, Tractor Supply’s corporate office wrote they are “deeply saddened by this tragic situation.”

“We are fully cooperating with local authorities,” the statement read. “The safety and security of our team members is the top priority for Tractor Supply. We work hard to ensure that our workplace has the training, protocols and systems in place to keep our team members safe.

“We will continue to support and assist the family impacted as well as our team members in every way possible as they begin to recover from today’s terrible situation.”

Further details were not immediately available.
