Human skeletal remains found near Macon Downtown Airport in eastern Bibb County

Human skeletal remains were discovered Monday not far from Macon Downtown Airport in eastern Bibb County, Coroner Leon Jones said.

At about midday, land surveyors working in the area found what was thought to be parts of a skull in a ditch near the intersection of Riggins Mill and Weaver roads, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

The area is near the southeastern border of the airport property.

The sheriff’s statement said the bone fragments were being sent to a GBI lab for examination and possible identification.
