Kemp signs surplus bill to give refund to GA taxpayers. Here’s when you’ll get your money.
In an effort to “put money back into the hands of hardworking Georgians,” Gov. Brian Kemp has signed a bill which will allow Georgia taxpayers a refund for those that filed in 2020 and 2021. The refund will be given out one time and the amount is dependent upon how taxpayers filed:
Single, Married Filing Separate - $250.00
Head of Household - $375.00
Married Filing Joint - $500.00
“When government takes in more than it needs, I believe those dollars should be returned to the taxpayer, because that is your money - not the government’s,” said Kemp.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, there was a $3.7 billion surplus in 2021 and more than a billion of that was allocated for taxpayers.
The refund will be in the hands of Georgians in six to eight weeks via check or direct deposit. More information is available on the Georgia Department of Revenue website.
