Driver of 18-wheeler killed when truck slams into guardrail, flips on I-16 near Macon

The driver of a tractor-trailer rig was killed Monday morning when he apparently lost control of the rig, struck a guardrail and flipped over a couple of miles southeast of downtown Macon on Interstate 16, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. along the interstate’s westbound lanes, between the Coliseum Drive and Golden Isles Highway exits.

The driver, Clinton Tinsley, 47, of Ellabell in Bryan County near Savannah, was pronounced dead at a Macon hospital shortly after 9 a.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

The cause of the wreck was not known.
