Suspect opens fire on undercover Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy in Macon neighborhood
A shooting in a Macon neighborhood a block or so west of Riverside Drive Wednesday afternoon left a street littered with shell casings but resulted in no injuries.
A Bibb County Sheriff’s deputy was working undercover in an unmarked car at about 3 p.m., following a silver sedan, possibly a Kia with a handicap license plate, into the neighborhood off of General Winship Drive, west of Old Holton Road and across Riverside Drive from various car dealerships and a Red Lobster.
The car stopped at a stop sign and then someone got out the silver sedan and fired more than a dozen shots at the unmarked car. It’s unclear if the officer returned fire. The sedan sped off toward Riverside Drive and escaped.
“Fortunately, neither he nor his car were shot,” Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said. “That is a very troubling series of events. It’s completely unacceptable... that they would stop and shoot at a car, whether they knew it was law enforcement or not.”
Investigators have not released information about the suspects.
