Macon woman dies of injuries from car crash that happened a block from her home

A 37-year-old Macon woman who was seriously injured Tuesday night in a car crash on Ridge Avenue died Wednesday at a local hospital, officials said.

The woman who died, Shineka Hughes, lived about a block away from scene of the wreck, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Thursday.

A Bibb sheriff’s spokesperson said Hughes was driving a 2015 Hyundai Accent, which collided with a 2001 Ford Taurus at Ridge’s intersection with Riley Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver of the Taurus was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.

The crash happened near a church about 300 yards southeast of Henry Burns Park and Ingleside Avenue, about a block north of Vineville Avenue.

Sheriff’s investigators were still looking into what may have caused the wreck.
