A Georgia man was killed late Tuesday when he was struck by a passing car while he was standing near a stalled automobile on Ga. Highway 247 on Macon’s south side, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said.

The victim, 43-year-old Gin Hau Thang, was living in Gwinnett County and had come to this country from Myanmar. He died at the scene.

Details of his death were not fully clear, but a statement from Bibb sheriff’s officials said the incident happened near the Monarca Ballroom, formerly a popular skating rink, just south of the Houston Road split at about 10:30 p.m.

There had been a report of a stalled automobile there and when a sheriff’s deputy got there a man’s body was lying in the road. Some people at the scene said the victim had been standing in the road near the stalled car when he was struck by a passing car, which stopped. Its driver was not hurt.
