Macon-Bibb County, Robins AFB and more are hosting Veterans Day events. What to know
Communities across Middle Georgia are honoring U.S. military veterans and their families with events Thursday for Veterans Day.
At 11 a.m. Thursday, Middle Georgia State University (MGA) and Macon-Bibb will co-host a Veterans Day ceremony at Coleman Hill in downtown Macon.
The event will honor veterans from every military branch and is open to the public. During the ceremony, soldiers who lost their lives during World War I will be honored by the 151st Machine Gun Battalion, 42nd Rainbow Division.
The Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation will also host their annual Veterans Day Program featuring Army Captain (Ret.) Quintisia Kelly as the guest speaker.
The event will be held at the Historic Linwood Cemetery on Walnut Street between Grant Avenue and Pursley Street on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Local school districts, including Bibb and Houston counties, are closed for Veterans Day.
Macon-Bibb County Government offices and courts will be closed Thursday. Trash and recycling collection will not change. The Solid Waste Department will be closed and will resume yard and bulk waste pickup Friday.

Carl Vinson VA Medical Center
The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center will post its annual virtual Veterans Day Program on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. to the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center’s Facebook page. Channel 13 WMAZ Anchor Wanya Reese will be the keynote speaker. The annual program includes a variety of participants from the local and Middle Georgia community and honors veterans for their service to the nation.
“Veterans Day is a special time where we honor those who served our country and sacrificed of themselves so that we can enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today,” said U.S. Army Veteran and Interim Medical Center Director Robert Reeder. “We owe these Veterans a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid but we can provide world-class healthcare and programs to our heroes.”
