A 47-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed over the weekend as she tried to walk across several lanes of traffic at a heavily-traveled highway intersection on Macon’s south side, authorities said.

The victim, Tawanda Faye Willis, was apparently on her way to the Jumbo Mart convenience store on the west side of the busy Pio Nono Avenue-Broadway-Houston Road fork near the Magnolia Court Motel, Bibb County sheriff’s officials said in a statement about the incident.

Willis, who was said to have been walking from a motel on the east side of the intersection, was struck shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday by a southbound automobile.

She died at the scene.
