Oreo-filled churros, anyone? Fairs are canceled, but here’s where to get fair food

With the fall fair and festival season for the most part canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, Middle Georgians hankering for a taste of midway morsels and other gastronomic goodies can still grab a bite of junk-food joy.

A handful of local spots are serving up fair-food favorites, including one planned at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry.

Flavors of the Fair!” as the event is called runs Oct. 15-18 and Nov. 5-8 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day.

Vendors and foods available have yet to be announced.

At the Fair Food Frenzy on the evenings of Oct. 9 and 10 in downtown Macon on Poplar Street, turkey legs, funnel cakes and cotton candy are among the offerings to be had.

Every day this month at Lane Southern Orchards along Ga. 96 west of Interstate 75 in Peach County, they’re serving candy apples, caramel apples, cotton candy, churros — with or without Oreo-cookie filling — funnel cakes, fried pickles, fried Oreos and other delicacies.
