Macon man charged with kidnapping girlfriend’s ex, forcing him to drive for hours

A Macon man is accused of kidnapping the ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend and forcing him to drive to multiple drug houses before releasing him unharmed the next day.

Julian Julius Sparks, 43, of Macon, was arrested Thursday in connection with the Aug. 21 incident, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sparks was charged with four counts of terroristic threats, four counts of kidnapping, first-degree cruelty to children and simple battery.

Sparks allegedly used his girlfriend’s child to lure her ex-boyfriend, Arthur Quarterman, 45, of Macon, to a residence off Huguenin Avenue late one Friday night. Here’s what went down, according to the release:

When Quarterman arrived, Sparks confronted him about “possibly still having relations” with Sparks’ girlfriend and allegedly pulled a gun on him.

Sparks then allegedly forced Quarterman to get into his vehicle, where two adults and one infant were already inside.

Sparks refused to let anyone out of the vehicle and allegedly forced Quarterman to drive him to several locations looking for Sparks’ girlfriend.

Sparks also made Quarterman drive him to multiple houses where Sparks allegedly bought drugs and then used those drugs while they were driving around, according to the release.

Eventually, Sparks allowed Quarterman to drop off the other people in the vehicle. But it wasn’t until the next morning that Sparks had Quarterman drive him back to the Huguenin Avenue residence and drop Sparks off.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Sparks was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Macon Mall off of Eisenhower Parkway and jailed late Thursday morning, according to the release. He was being held without bond.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or call the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
