Crawford County man dies in mobile home fire
A 47-year-old Crawford County man died in a mobile home fire early Wednesday.
The body of Kavin Kelly was found by Crawford County firefighters who responded to the fire at 4574 East Houze Road near Fort Valley, according to a news release from the state fire commissioner.
The fire apparently started in a kitchen that had been added on to the home, the release said. Kelly had told his brother late Tuesday that he smelled something burning, but the fire was not reported until nearly 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The fire was initially reported as a woods fire by a motorist passing by, said Weston Burleson, spokesman for the state fire commissioner.
Foul play is not suspected, Burleson said. The fire may have been electrical but cannot be confirmed at this point.
The fire remains under investigation.
“Our fire investigators and I are deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Kelly’s passing,” Georgia Fire Commissioner John King said in a news release.
The death marked the 50th fire fatality in Georgia this year.
State fire investigators are assisting the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the Crawford County Fire Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Perry office with the investigation.
