Middle Georgia woman struck and killed by tractor-trailer along I-75

A Butts County woman who was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck along Interstate 75 late Sunday was identified Tuesday by authorities in neighboring Monroe County.

A Monroe sheriff’s spokeswoman said in an emailed statement sent to area news outlets that the victim, Amanda Faye Banks, of Flovilla, was hit while apparently walking along the freeway’s southbound lanes on the south side of Forsyth about 11:40 p.m.

Banks was believed to be in her late 30s.

Rescuers were first sent to the scene of what was described in the statement as “a tractor-trailer accident with an unknown object in the middle of the road.”

Authorities soon discovered that Banks’ automobile was found broken down nearby.

The death was said to be under investigation.
