3-year-old girl dies in drowning incident at pool at Macon home

A 3-year-old girl died Saturday in a drowning at a family pool in Macon, authorities said.

Hattie Slocomb was pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m. at the Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The accidental drowning incident occurred in the 500 block of Pierce Avenue, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies and Macon-Bibb firefighters responded to the call shortly before 2 p.m.

The girl was with relatives at a family gathering, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

She “wandered off and was found unresponsive in the pool,” the release said.

A family member performed CPR until emergency medical services arrived, the release said.
