A construction worker was killed Thursday when a Quality Inn sign fell, also injuring two other workers, authorities said.

Johnny Stewart, 18, of Macon, was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m. at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The two other workers, a 52-year-old male, and a 62-year-old male, both of Macon, were listed in stable condition at the hospital Thursday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident at the hotel at 4630 Chambers Road happened about 10:35 a.m. when workers were fixing the sign and there was an equipment failure, according to a sheriff’s news release.

The sign was suspended from a Rosson Sign Company boom truck when it fell onto Stewart and the other workers, the release read.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
