Macon man charged with involuntary manslaughter in shooting death of friend

A Macon man is dead after an apparent accidental shooting at an apartment complex. His friend has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, a felony.

Wesley Faulks, 30, died hours after the 7:38 p.m. incident Wednesday inside Apartment K-8 at Hidden Lake Apartments at 180 Hidden Lake Court, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Tevin Javon Pleas, 28, had been free on $650 bond on a misdemeanor charge of reckless conduct.

The involuntary manslaughter charge was added Thursday, with Pleas being held without bond, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses told Bibb sheriff’s deputies that the two friends were showing each other their new firearms. Pleas thought he had cleared his weapon, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The gun discharged, striking Mr. Faulks in the eye,” Jones said.

Pleas’ address on the jail log was the same as the incident location.

Faulks was pronounced dead 1:20 a.m. Thursday at the Medical Center, Navicent Health, Jones said.
