Victims in deadly crash in Bibb County identified

Two people are dead and a third hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night at the intersection of Sardis Church and Barfield roads in Bibb County.

At 8:22 p.m., 41-year old Kimberly Dawn Hampton was driving a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup west on Sardis Church Road when she lost control of the vehicle, which hit an embankment, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Passengers 17-year-old Xander Carlisle Abshire and 30-year-old Jessie Jackson Hobby III were ejected. Abshire and Hampton were pronounced dead on scene, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Jessie Jackson Hobby III, 30, was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was listed in critical but stable condition early Thursday, Jones said.

Two other Middle Georgia residents also have died this week from injuries in automobile accidents.

Tuesday, 71-year-old Clifford Scott of Macon died at Regency Hospital of Central Georgia from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 last month, Jones said.

At 1:47 p.m. April 30, Scott was behind the driver’s wheel of a 2002 Ford Taurus on Interstate-75 north near Mile Marker 171 when he was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler, Jones said.

Witnesses said the car was stopped in the road when it was struck.

Scott was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where he was admitted. He was discharged May 20 to the rehabilitation center with a closed head injury, according to Jones.

Sunday, a Warner Robins man was killed in a crash in Taylor County. Ishah Jordan, 23, was a passenger in a 2012 Honda Accord when its driver failed to maintain the lane of travel and lost control of the vehicle, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The car traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway, striking the embankment and overturning. While the car was overturning, Jordan was ejected from the vehicle. The car came to rest on its roof in the north ditch.

Jordan was not wearing a seat belt, according to the GSP.

The crash also sent the driver and three passengers to the Medical Center, while another passenger had a minor injury and was not taken to the hospital, according to the GSP.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
