84-year-old woman run over by vehicle in own Macon driveway identified

An 84-year-old woman died after being run over by her own car in her Macon driveway, Bibb County sheriff’s officials announced in a news release.

The woman was identified as Joan Bennett of 115 Embassy Court, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The woman pulled into her driveway about 4:30 p.m. Monday and fell as she was exiting her 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis, witnesses told deputies. The vehicle then ran the victim over as it rolled backward.

Witnesses said the vehicle was still running and in gear at the time of the incident, according to the release. Nobody else was in the car with the woman, according to the release.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator.
