Peach County teen killed when car slams into guardrail on I-75 near Byron

A Fort Valley teenager died Sunday night after her car slammed into a guardrail on Interstate 75 in Peach County, officials said.

Isabella Marie Alonzo, 18, was heading north in the area of the White Road overpass about a mile south of the main Byron exit when she apparently lost control of the 2008 Honda Civic she was driving, the Georgia State Patrol said in a statement.

The crash happened about 5:20 p.m.

Alonzo was pronounced dead at a Macon hospital shortly before 10 p.m., Peach Coroner Kerry Rooks said.

The state patrol said Alonzo’s Honda, which had been traveling in the freeway’s right lane, struck a guardrail in its driver’s side door.

No one else was riding in the car, Rooks said.
