Have you seen her? Police create task force to find missing Fort Valley State senior

The Fort Valley Police Department needs help in locating a missing student, according to a post on the Fort Valley Department of Public Safety Facebook page.

Anitra Gunn, 23, was last seen on Friday, Feb. 14 at 11:30 a.m. near Chestnut Hills Road just outside Fort Valley. Her family reported her missing on Saturday after not hearing from her for an unusual amount of time. Her car was found inside the city limits of Fort Valley.

The Fort Valley Police Department and The Peach County Sheriff Department announced on Monday the creation of a joint task force in an effort to find Gunn.

Chief Lawrence Spurgeon said in a release posted on the Facebook page that in the past, investigations like this could be tough because it spanned multiple jurisdictions. The goal of the task force is to make sure the investigation runs efficiently.

“If any harm has befell this young lady the arrest and prosecution of the subject or subjects responsible will be of the highest priority for all agencies,” Spurgeon said. “We are asking that anyone with information about Anitra’s whereabouts call the police department at 478-825-3384”

Fort Valley State University did confirm in a statement that she is one of their students. She is a senior agriculture major and is enrolled full time at the school.

“Fort Valley State University is deeply concerned about the well-being of our student Anitra Gunn and we are praying for her safe return,” the statement said. “FVSU is working closely with the Fort Valley Police Department, which is investigating Anitra’s disappearance.”
