Victim identified in fatal shooting at a Bibb motel, coroner says
A woman is dead after a shooting at a Macon motel on Chambers Road, a coroner says.
Ashley Wease, 37, of Eatonton was shot multiple times at the EconoLodge Inn & Suites, 4709 Chambers Road, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
A call came in about the shooting at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, Jones said.
The woman was unresponsive when sheriff’s deputies arrived, said Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Williams. She was wounded in the upper torso, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Emergency medical service personnel were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead in the back of an ambulance on scene, Jones said.
Within minutes of arriving, sheriff’s deputies detained “a person of interest” nearby at the corner of Eisenhower Parkway and Presidential Parkway, the release said.
He was taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. No one had been charged in connection with the shooting by mid-afternoon, Williams said by telephone.
The shooting marks the seventh homicide this year for Macon-Bibb County, Jones said.
Motel employees declined comment Saturday.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751 -7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
