Avoid I-75/I-16 interchange in Bibb County after diesel fuel spill, GDOT says

Motorists were urged to avoid the Interstate 75/Interstate 16 interchange after an extensive diesel fuel spill resulted in lane closures Tuesday afternoon.

A tractor-trailer’s fuel tank ruptured, spilling fuel across about a half-mile of the interstate, Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Penny Brooks said.

At 5:45 p.m., traffic in one southbound lane of I-75 andd one eastbound lane of I-16 were stalled. All lanes were expected to be open by 6 p.m.

“There’s a lot of fuel to clean up,” Brooks said. “All lanes at one time were blocked.”
