Central High teacher found dead after being placed on leave from school

A day after being placed on administrative leave, a Central High School teacher and coach was found dead in a vehicle on Davis Road near Kathleen.

Lt. Kent Bankston with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office said Jacob Dyer was found dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dyer’s car was spotted on the dirt road when a person was leaving for work Thursday morning. When the person returned home and saw the car still there, the person called 911, Bankston said.

Houston County Coroner Daniel Galpin confirmed Dyer committed suicide, but declined to comment further.

School spokeswoman Stephanie Hartley told WMAZ the school notified Central High families that Dyer had died, but she would not comment on why Dyer was placed on administrative leave because it was a personnel matter.

Dyer was a social studies teacher at Central High School and offensive coordinator for the football team, according to his LinkedIn profile.
