Midweek storms may pack damaging gusts and dump rain around Macon

Stormy weather ahead of a cold front is expected to blow through Middle Georgia at midweek, possibly packing heavy rain, gusting winds and a slight chance of tornadoes.

Rainfall totals could reach 4 inches in spots here, National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Lynn told The Telegraph on Monday, with the potential for damaging winds coming Wednesday night into Thursday.

While a cold front is rolling in, don’t expect too much of a cool off because another weather system may be on the cold front’s heels, Lynn said.

“Any cooler air is just not going to last very long,” he said.

The forecast for later this week is calling for a high of 70 degrees on Thursday. Friday’s high is expected to be 55.

Low temperatures across the region were expected in the 60s on Thursday, but by Saturday morning there will be lows in the upper 30s.

“Going from lows of 62 Thursday morning to 38 Saturday morning, that’s a pretty good swing,” Lynn said.

The outlook for the best chances of severe weather, were in a swath of Georgia’s midsection that stretches from just north of Atlanta and south to below Cordele.
