Baby abducted from Americus found safe. Biological father charged with murder
A 2-month-old baby has been found safe after he was abducted by his biological father.
Demonte Everett Mayes Jr., 23, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping, the Americus Times-Recorder reported.
He’s accused of shooting 21-year-old La’Warrior Gardener when he allegedly abducted the child from a residence in Americus, WALB-TV reports. He was taken Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
An Amber alert was issued.

A 2-month-old baby was abducted Saturday morning from Americus, Georgia, and an Amber Alert was issued.
Authorities are looking for 2013 red Toyota Camry four-door sedan with Texas plates KND3508. The car has black velocity rims, a dent to the driver side door and a rear driver’s side light out.
They believe Draco Mayes was abducted by Everett Demonte Mayes Jr., 23, described as a black male, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 165 pounds, according to the alert.
Everett Mayes has brown eyes, black hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and white shoes.
The baby was described as black male, brown eyes, 22 inches in height and weighing 11 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark grey onesie with long sleeves that says “Happy” on the front with stars.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation activated Levi’s Call, Georgia’s Amber Alert system, on behalf of the Americus Police Department.
Anyone with any information about the suspect’s and child’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, or the Americus Police Department at 229-924-3677.
