Forysth woman killed in single-vehicle crash that shut down Ga. 42

A woman is dead after crashing her car into a tree off Ga. 42 northbound in Monroe County late Wednesday, authorities say.

Mikayla Shay Singletary, 22, of Forsyth, died on the scene, said Monroe County Sheriff Brad Freeman.

Singletary was driving a KIA Forte northbound on Ga. 42 when the car went off the roadway, struck a ravine, went airborne and crashed high into a tree before landing in the ravine, Freeman said.

“It was a pretty violent impact,” Freeman said.

The car’s engine was dislodged and the car burst into flames, he said.

The 911 call of the single-vehicle crash at Mile Post 19 came in at 10:10 p.m.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the accident.
