Popular Macon pizzeria closes its doors in Mercer Village. What’s next for that spot?

A popular pizza spot in Mercer Village has shut down but a new restaurant will take its place in early 2020.

Sauced, at 1635 Montpelier Ave., had a sign posted on its door Wednesday saying the pizzeria is “currently closed.”

The shop known for its large pizza slices and sandwiches opened its doors in 2014. It was popular with college students.

A second sign on the door of Sauced read that an “exciting new pizza pub” is coming soon.

Richie Jones, Brian Adams and Ryan Griffin are the new owners of Sauced, and they plan to reopen as JAG’s Pizzeria and Pub in early 2020, Griffin said. The new restaurant will have a full bar, arcade games and more televisions.

The first eatery to open in the spot was Ingleside Village Pizza in 2008. Andrew Collier, a franchisee of IVP, then opened Sauced, according to Telegraph archives.
