Coroner needs help finding family of woman hit, killed by vehicle on rainy Macon street

A woman walking on Jeffersonville Road late Monday night was struck by a pickup and died at a Macon hospital.

The woman was identified a 31-year-old Charlene White of Macon, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones said the coroner’s office needs help finding White’s family. She’s originally from Alabama, Jones said.

The woman was walking in the middle of the road in a dark area in the rain, said Bibb County sheriff’s Sgt. Clay Williams. It’s not known why she was in the roadway.

The driver of the pickup was headed west on Jeffersonville Road near Millerfield Road just before 10 p.m. when White was struck, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

White was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health, where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room. No one else was hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.
