Two people died in an accident that happened on Interstate 75 in Dooly County on Saturday.
Trooper Johntavious King of the Georgia State Patrol Post in Cordele said the accident happened at about 10 p.m. in the south bound lane. He said the call originally came in as a disabled vehicle in the roadway, but three other vehicles collided with it, including a tractor trailer that fled the scene.
He said the disabled vehicle, stopped in the far right travel lane next to the emergency lane, was a Toyota Camry driven by Donald Johnson, 77, of Jacksonville, Fla. Johnson was killed when the vehicle was struck from behind by a Chevy Impala. The driver of the Chevy was also killed. He was not identified due to his family having not yet been notified. A Ford Expedition then struck those two vehicles. A semi-tractor trailer then collided with the vehicles and fled the scene. No further description of the vehicle is available.
Johnson’s wife was a passenger in his vehicle. She was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital and is in stable condition. The driver of the Expedition was treated at Crisp Regional Hospital and was in stable condition.
