Man stabbed to death at Central City Park identified
A man was found stabbed to death Saturday at an apparent campsite located in a wooded area behind an open field near the entrance to Central City Park, authorities say.
Sheriff’s investigators discovered that the man had been stabbed in the back after responding to a report of an unresponsive person at the campsite in the 100 block of Walnut Street, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release. The man was identified as Ryan Lee Glover, 35.
The campsite was located in the woods in the back of an open field across from the Daybreak homeless shelter, said Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.
The body was discovered by homeless individuals, Miley said.
The man was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m., Miley said.
No identification was found on the man, who looks to have been in his 30s or 40s, Miley said.
“We don’t know what happened to him or when he was last seen,” Miley said earlier, shortly after the body was found. He was waiting for members of the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s crime lab to arrive at that time before examining the body. “It was just a couple of more people that was down here — they’re homeless people at the park that discovered him.”
He later added that there were “very obvious signs of foul play” and “wounds” to the body that indicated that the death was a homicide.
Miley initially said he suspected that the man was homeless based on the campsite, but added later that the homicide determination “kind of changed the dynamics, but we don’t know.”
An autopsy is expected.
The death marks the 35th homicide for Macon-Bibb County this year, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
The fatal stabbing remains under investigation.
