Victims identified in fatal crash on U.S. 441 bypass
Distracted driving may have played a part in a fatal accident Friday morning in Baldwin County.
About 8:30 a.m., Jessica Pace, 41, of Milledgeville was headed north on U.S. 441 when she failed to stop for a traffic signal at Allen Memorial Drive, Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Alan Rhodes said.
Pace's 2015 Nissan Versa crashed into a 2011 Hyundai Elantra driven by 54-year-old Bernice White, of Milledgeville.
White was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Baldwin County Deputy Coroner Ken Garland.
Rhodes said charges are pending against Pace, who was taken to a local hospital.
"She ran the red light and struck Ms. White's vehicle," Rhodes said. "We don't think drugs or alcohol were involved, but it's not yet known if it's a case of distracted driving."
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
