Jon Anderson, professor of management and former deputy provost at the University of West Georgia, will join Middle Georgia State University in the New Year as provost and vice president for academic affairs.

A local university has a new provost coming on board for the new year.

Jon Anderson will become Middle Georgia State University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs Jan. 8. He replaces Melanie Hatch, who held the job for a year and a half before taking a job with the University System of Georgia.

In the position, Anderson will be the chief academic officer and act as the chief executive when the president is gone. He will oversee faculty and staff in the school’s academic division and new and existing academic programs.

Anderson was a liability specialist and loan officer before before entering the field of education in 1999, as a high school business teacher and coach. He was formerly deputy provost and associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of West Georgia, and he currently serves as a professor of management there.

He has a Ph.D. in business administration management, master’s degree in business education and bachelor’s degree in sociology.

“We are excited to have someone of Jon’s experience join the University as provost,” said Christopher Blake, Middle Georgia State’s president. “I am confident that he will provide the leadership we need to lead our academic strategy to fulfill our blended operation of a University mission with an access function.”
