Bibb inmate caught soon after escape

A Bibb County inmate escaped late Saturday night while being escorted outside the jail but was quickly recaptured.

Sharold Spivey, 30, broke away from a detention officer who was taking him from the jail on Hawthorne Street to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center across the street due to a medical issue, according to a sheriff’s office release. The escape happened at about 9:30 p.m. Spivey, who was being held on theft charges, was handcuffed at the time.

A lookout was immediately issued and deputies began searching several blocks. Shortly after 10 p.m. Spivey was captured without incident.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division is investigating the incident.
