Sheriff: Clearing brush makes hiding harder

Standing in a clear field near the corner of Pansy Avenue and Iris Street, Sheriff David Davis noted that it was like a forest before jail inmates and county heavy equipment operators arrived.

That kind of environment "breeds criminal activity" he said not far from where a man was recently killed. "We're taking it on ourselves to come out here and clean off some of these overgrown areas so that you've got good sight lines. It's harder to hide things and it's harder for people to hide, too."

Pastor Margo Dent, who lives on Pansy Avenue, said she appreciated the clean up. ``It was a lot of trash before” said Dent. “ There are a lot of elderly people who own property here and when people visit them now they’re going to be proud to know that Unionville is still here for them. We’re thankful.”
