Macon’s Georgia Doom set to face Atlanta Havoc in March for first-ever game

Doomsday is near — at least for the Atlanta Havoc.

Georgia Doom, Macon’s new American Arena League football team, is set to kick off its first-ever season March 24 with a home game at the Macon Coliseum against the Havoc, team officials announced Wednesday.

Season tickets to the 10 games scheduled between March and June went on sale Wednesday starting at $119.95 apiece. A discount booklet, a $20 concession voucher, half-off parking at away games, and a “pregame chalk talk” with coaches are among the perks for season ticket holders.

Kevin Adkins, CEO of the team, said the team’s slogan is “unleash the Doom.”

“Tick, tick, doom” also will be a cheer.

Macon hasn’t had an arena football team since the Macon Knights, which played from 2001-2006.

“The community support is what’s going to help us make this a successful and long-lasting organization,” Adkins said.

Former Macon Knights coach Derek Stingley is the Doom’s head coach. There were tryouts earlier this year, but additional tryouts are set for Dec. 16.

The 2018 schedule is as follows:

▪  March 30 at 7:35 p.m.: Peach State Kats, home;

▪  April 7 at 7 p.m.: Triangle Torch, Raleigh, North Carolina;

▪  April 14 at 7 p.m.: Upstate Dragons, Anderson, South Carolina;

▪  April 21 at 7 p.m.: Carolina Energy, home;

▪  April 28 at 7 p.m.: Cape Fear Heros, Fayetteville, North Carolina;

▪  May 5: BYE

▪  May 12 at 7 p.m: Roughriders, home;

▪  May 19 at 7 p.m.: Florida Tarpons, home;

▪  May 26 at 7 p.m.: H.C. Grizzlies, Boone, North Carolina;

▪  June 2: BYE

▪  June 9 at 7 p.m.: Atlanta Havoc, home.
