Man kills himself outside ex-girlfriend’s workplace

A man who’d been fighting with his former girlfriend Wednesday shot himself outside her workplace at the Academy Sports warehouse in Twiggs County.

Deputies were called about an argument that had turned physical inside the distribution center, which is near the exit for Ga. 96 off Interstate 16, Sheriff Darren Mitchum said.

The facility’s security intervened and Cedric Wimberly Jr. left through the front door.

When deputies arrived about 3:30 p.m., the 21-year-old was found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff said.

The suicide in a public place is the second recently in Middle Georgia.

On the afternoon of July 24, a 58-year-old man shot himself near Hancock and South Wayne streets in downtown Milledgeville.

The GBI is investigating the death of Dwight Riddle and whether it is related to a large sum of money that reportedly went missing from the Masonic Benevolent Lodge No. 3, according to The Union-Recorder.
