Got an idea for a name for Macon’s new baseball team? Here’s how to make your pitch

Macon’s new summer collegiate baseball franchise is on track to begin its inaugural season in summer 2018.

But before then, team officials are asking for the public’s help in naming the team. The name should be something “fun” and “unique” that represents the Macon community, officials said in a news release.

The Coastal Plain League team will play at historic Luther Williams Field in Central City Park. The stadium is expected to undergo up to $2.5 million in renovations in preparation for the baseball team.

“We’ve already heard a number of unique name suggestions involving Macon’s heritage as well as names playing off the word Macon,” team president Todd Pund said in a statement. “We don’t have any specific guidelines but it should be family friendly and be something fans from ages two to 100 would be proud to wear on a hat, T-shirt or other apparel.”

Suggestions can be made at www.maconbaseball2018.com.

Tickets should go on sale in the next few weeks, the release said.
