Macon man dies after SUV hits interstate barrier, overturns multiple times

Early Sunday morning, a 38-year-old Macon man died as the result of a crash on Interstate 475 in Monroe County.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three-vehicle wreck about 2 a.m. on the interstate near mile marker 14. Scott Peace was driving a Lexus SUV northbound on I-475 when he lost control, struck the median concrete barrier and overturned multiple times, according to a release from Sgt. Lawson Bittick.

“The driver was ejected away from the vehicle into the third lane of the interstate and was struck by two other vehicles traveling the same route,” the release said.

The interstate was closed for several hours after the crash.

Fatality investigators said at the time of the wreck that speed was a “major contributing factor,” the release said.
