Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare encourages community to get involved
Macon-Bibb County Animal Welfare has about 35 dogs and 19 cats up for adoption. The shelter has reached its capacity and there are many animals needing permanent homes.
“We could use the community’s help in making room, so we can continue to provide public safety,” Cson Johnson, assistant director of animal welfare said. “We would like to ask for your help in rescuing or adopting animals today and every day.”
Summer is the shelter’s busiest time of the year and adoption is crucial for smooth operation. These are the times the shelter gets calls that it can’t refuse and has to make room for incoming animals. It utilizes Facebook and rescue partners, and ask for help to make space.
“It is actually pretty amazing because everybody pulls together and we might be crowded overnight or two nights, but usually we can make it work,” Johnson said.
The shelter urges community members to call, visit, send a Facebook message or email to inquire about adoption.
“Come visit, come walk a dog, if they’ve been thinking about adopting we would encourage them to come and meet the ones that we have. You just never know if you will find the right one,” Johnson said.
