New River Edge housing complex welcomed by officials, residents
Officials celebrated a new Macon housing development Wednesday.
The Bayside Village complex offers housing for people recovering from mental illness and addiction, the formerly homeless, or those with developmental disabilities. The development is a partnership between River Edge Behavioral Health Center, Macon-Bibb County and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a release.
A ribbon cutting with Macon-Bibb and HUD officials, River Edge staff and Bayside residents was held Wednesday. The complex, located at 3555 Fulton Mill Road, has 16 one-bedroom apartments. The $1.5 million project is the River Edge Foundation’s fifth permanent housing development.
“The mission of River Edge is to add value to the people and communities we serve,” Shannon Gordon, River Edge’s chief executive officer, said in a statement. “So we are pleased to provide this available resource and solution to community housing. We know that stable housing helps people achieve long-term recovery, and we deeply appreciate the partnership of the Macon-Bibb consolidated government and HUD to make this possible.”
