Apartments proposed for downtown Macon landmark
Macon-Bibb County officials could decide this month whether to allow a local firm to help remake a downtown Macon landmark.
A resolution will go before the Macon-Bibb County Commission on Tuesday to turn the Willie C. Hill Government Center Annex into a commercial and residential development. The proposal is for the building to be renovated into 40 residential units while the lower floors would turn into commercial space.
Macon-based Dunwody/Beeland Architects is a member of the Integrity Development Partners team behind the project.
Macon-Bibb officials hired a firm last year to perform a feasibility study and find developers for the 62,000-square-foot Cherry Street building that is now commercial and government offices. The 11-story building, formerly the Bankers Insurance Building, opened in 1941.
The resolution would need to be be approved by a committee before heading to the full commission.
