Westside student killed in accident

A Westside High School junior was killed in an accident in Washington County on Saturday.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones identified the victim as Shi’kemmia Glover, 17. He said she was the driver in the one-car accident.

A passenger in the car suffered non life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol, which is investigating the accident.

An email from the patrol’s Atlanta office stated that the accident happened at 11:43 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle was traveling west on Ga. 24 in a construction zone with a 35 mph speed limit.

The vehicle went off the road and Glover overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn several times and land vertical in a tree. Glover was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, landing in a small pond.

The passenger, who was not identified, freed herself from the vehicle, made it to the highway and flagged down a passing motorist. The passenger was airlifted to the Medical Center, Navicent Health.

Stephanie Hartley, a spokeswoman for Bibb County schools, said Glover was on the Westside basketball team.

Jones said Bentley and Sons Funeral Home in Macon is in charge of the arrangements.
