Day of Peace, Community and Unity coming to Macon

A grassroots organization aims to bring unity to Macon and is seeking help in doing so.

The day of Peace, Community and Unity will be held Sept. 24 with 11 events that include community empowering, cleanups, blight removal, tree planting and more.

The event is organized by the Macon-Bibb County Shalom Zones and Pastor Dennis Singini, a county representative and program director for WorldHope Malawi, according to a release.

Shalom Zones are designated areas where revitalization efforts are led by churches, community leaders, businesses and the local government.

“We asked that the city of Macon and our regional neighbors join us by organizing an event in your community or church on Sept. 24 to spread love,” Shalom Zones Director Frank Austin said. “The event can be as simple as paying forward or cooking with your neighbor.”

Events have been planned in the neighborhoods of Village Green, Lynmore Estates, Pleasant Hill, east Macon, Unionville, Bellevue, south Macon, Hillcrest, Kings Park, the Kitchen Pride area, and the Log Cabin area. Activities will also focus on crime prevention, education and art.

“I believe that the answer to the issues need to be placed in the hands of the community. I am with the people,” Austin said.

To help with an event, email frankaustin85@gmail.com or call 478-714-1885. The event can also be shared on social media with the hashtag #LOVE824.
