Macon-Bibb County will launch two free COVID-19 testing sites, starting Monday
Macon-Bibb County is partnering with a pharmaceutical company to stand up two drive-up COVID-19 testing sites, starting Monday, as the omicron variant spikes cases across Middle Georgia.
Heritage Pharma Group will operate the two free sites, located at the old Bibb County Health Department (171 Emery Highway) and at the Macon Mall (3661 Eisenhower Parkway).
“No one will be turned away. It is important for you to get tested,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We want to make this resource available for everyone in order to be safe and slow the spread of COVID-19. ”The tests are free for people, and everyone is welcome. It is recommended you make an appointment online, but staff will be available to help you register on-site.”
The sites will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Friday and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning Jan. 10. Bibb County residents can register online.
Both sites will offer polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and rapid tests: PCR tests return in 24-48 hours and rapid test results are available within a few hours.
Heritage Pharma Group will be working closely with Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) nursing students who will be on-site providers.
“This as an opportunity where students can go to school, work with a flexible schedule, and most importantly, continue their commitment and trajectory as they seek to serve the community,” said CGTC Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Alvin Harmon.
